2016–2017 Shul School Calendar
August 29, 2016
This year’s Shul School (Religious School) officially begins with a congregation-wide retreat on Saturday, September 24th at Buckhorn Springs. The year ends with a weekend retreat just for Shul School families at the Siskiyou Field Institute in Selma, Oregon. Both retreats give kids and families an experience of a deeply-lived Judaism, held lovingly within Jewish community. On these retreats, we play, pray, rest, eat, learn, hike, sing, spend time together (and at one or the other, also experience ropes course work, harvesting honey, and playing Maccabia games).
In between the retreats, we have 16 Shul School Sundays, where from 10:00am – 1:00pm, kids learn Judaism through Art, Torah, Hebrew, and Judaic Studies. The last three years we’ve also framed everything through the lens of Mussar – the ancient Jewish practice of learning to be a mensch. There are lots of intergenerational programs and family learning on these Shul School Sundays.
Also, on the calendar, you’ll find Eat Pray Sing Friday Evening family potluck dinners and services (led by the children), holiday programming, teen weekends, and more. Join us.
