We are truly committed to continuing to Jewishly educate our kids past bar/bat mitzvah age. Our Teen Group routinely has events and opportunities for teens to plug into. We have a wonderful tradition of partnering with teens and Rabbi Benjamin Barnett at Beit Am in Corvallis to put on two incredible weekends each year. This year, we had a weekend in the Bay Area with both congregations – joining in an interfaith march in support of awareness of climate change, exploring Tilden Park, visiting the Jewish Museum in San Francisco, and being treated to wonderful Shabbat hospitality from Kehilla Community Synagogue and Rabbi Dev Noily in the East Bay. In April, we will camp in yurts on the Oregon coast.
Our Teen Group also volunteers with Jackson County Fuel Committee, chopping and stacking wood for those in need of heat, and has explored local interfaith issues, including visiting a local Buddhist Temple and meeting with teachers within that community.
Lastly, we have ten teen aides who are assistant teachers in our Shul School – part of a program that keeps teens involved in an active and dynamic way that has been part of Emek Shalom for over a decade.
